MUSIC EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS: BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

Abstract

On the analysis basis of previously unpublished archival sources the activities of the Music Department of the People’s Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR and a number of Moscow and Petrograd organizations for music education of children and youth from 1918 to 1920 are revealed. It is shown that for students of comprehensive labour schools of primary and secondary education there were discussions, lectures, concerts and musicals the purpose of which was the introduction of as many children as possible to prime examples of domestic and world music and folk art. Many major music representatives took part in it. It is concluded that the experience of music and educational work during the period under consideration is not only of historical interest but also of a practical importance. It can be used in the work of introducing current students into the world of classical music
