Abstract

An empirical study was conducted to diagnose the readiness levels of middle and high school students to perceive, recognize and interpret irony in a teacher's speech. Irony is considered as a pedagogical method, which can be both effective and ineffective method of speech influence depending on the factors of the speech situation, the main one being the receiver. The article also highlights the linguistic criteria for ironic utterance and the conditions for harmonizing pedagogical communication style through irony
