BROADENING ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND TRAINING – REMOVING BARRIERS

Abstract

Using as an example the trends observed in the European Union, the article looks into possible causes of the existing barriers for education and training, and into possible ways of broadening access to VET and higher education. Such mechanisms instrumental for enhancing flexibility of education systems are described, as qualification frameworks, diversification of certificates and diplomas, individualization of learning paths and recognition of prior learning, competences and qualifications. The issues are explored using European Community documents and reports
