Abstract

The article, based on the materials of the personal archive of Archbishop Ambrose (Shchurov), as well as his personal files kept by the Authorized Council for Religious Affairs at the USSR Council of Ministers for the Ivanovo region and at the Moscow Theological Seminary, documentary and scientific publications, examines the significance of the activities of Archbishop Ambrose (Shchurov), a native of the Kalinin region, for the processes of church revival in the 1990s in Russia. The significance of his personality goes far beyond the Ivanovo region, only after his death it begins to be realized. A number of books and scientific articles published since his transition to eternity, including in the Vakov journals, presentations of books in his memory in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Elista, speeches with reports on his activities at scientific conferences indicate that the spiritual legacy of Archbishop Ambrose is more important than it seemed to many during his lifetime, and it has yet to be revealed.
