Abstract

The article deals with the main aspects of reforming the armed forces of the USSR in 1924–1928. At the same time, the focus is not so much on purely military issues, but on the impact of army reforms on the sociopolitical sphere. The army in those years acted as one of the tools to combat illiteracy and as a kind of «social lift». The military structures provided the Red Army soldiers being transferred to the reserve with increased chances for career growth in the civilian sphere, and at the same time trained personnel to strengthen the influence of Soviet power in rural are as, and in the future - for mass collectivization. It can be said without exaggeration that the socio-political significance of the military reform of 1924–1928. was no less important than its own role in strengthening the defense capability of the USSR.
