Prince G. N. Trubetskoy, as a representative of the general staff of the acting army, was a notable figure in the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1917–1918. The most important acts of Trubetskoy at the Council were: a speech in defense of the patriarchate at the plenary session; authorship of the «transition formula» of the department of the Higher Church Administration; participation in the Council's embassy to Kiev and preparation of the document on the refusal of the Council to communicate with the Bolsheviks regarding the weekly academic publication «Church Bulletin». His activities at the Council, however, did not receive a proper scholarly appraisal. The present article is devoted to solving this problem. Based on an analysis of a set of published and archival documents, the article shows that G. N. Trubetskoy's diplomatic experience was in demand when dealing with acute discussion issues.Downloads
