Abstract

The article is devoted to the evolution of the Coming Kham’s (Gryadushchiy Kham) image in the conditions of the Russian Revolution of 1917. The image was actively used to describe political and social changes. Representatives of the lower strata, who received wide rights and freedoms after the overthrow of the monarchy, were called “khams” (brutes). An indication of their low intellectual and cultural level showed the disappointment of the educated strata in democracy, the fear that it would lead to the mob rule and anarchy. Mixing "khams" with those political groups that represented the interests of the social classes was used to discredit the socialists. As a result, this led to the understanding of the Coming Kham as a threat to the cultural elite, and creating the conditions for the development of the conflict scenario.
