Abstract

The article reveals the way to restoration of diplomatic relations between the USSR and the USA during the years of the Great Depression in 1933. The article identifies, analyzes and structures the reasons (economic, domestic and foreign policy) that strongly persuaded President F. Roosevelt to officially recognize the Soviet Union, despite the significant dif-ference in economic and political systems of the two countries, as well as the existence of mutual financial claims. The article deals with the prepa-ration of the United States for the exchange of diplomatic notes of recognition, as well as fears on the part of the American society because of the threat of the spread of communist ideas through the Comintern and the Communist Party of the USA; the statistics and forecasts of the Narkomvneshtorg of the USSR in the restoration of official economic and political relations between the USSR and the USA are given. The ar-ticle concludes that the normalization of relations with the Soviet Union will become one of the important factors in strengthening the political position and influence of US President F. D. Roosevelt.
