Abstract

The article reveals the range of materials of the scribe's description of the city of Tver, carried out in the mid-1620s. Potap Narbekov. It is most of-ten used by historians and archaeologists when studying the historical to-pography and socio-economic appearance of the city in the 17th century. The materials of this letter are now in scientific circulation in only one version - according to the publication of 1901, which is based on a copy (presumably of the 19th century) from the Excerpt made in 1681 from the original book. A selective comparison of the publication with the Ex-cerpt reveals numerous defects in the publication. The author notes a number of nuances that do not allow us to consider the text of the Extract as a full-fledged reflection of the materials of the scribe's description. In addition to the Extract of 1681, a valuable source of information about P. Narbekov's letter is a fragment of a genuine book, which for the first time received a characteristic in terms of source studies. The article presents a number of observations on the manuscript, which make it possible to judge the archival fate of the documentary complex in the 17th century.
