Abstract

The article examines the role of the clergy of the Kalinin Diocese in the revival of parish life in the 1940–1950 based on the materials of the rec-ords of the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church, the archive of the Tver Diocesan Administration, the memoirs of contempo-raries within the framework of changes in state-church relations. The priests of the pre-war ordination and those who reordained after 1941 are considered separately by age, education, professional skills. On the example of the memoirs of Archpriest Alexei Zlobin, the details of the religious life and everyday life of a rural priest are revealed. The conclu-sion is made about the problems of restoring church life locally due to the low educational level of the clergy, conflicts and degradation of par-ish life, expressed in the loss of pre-revolutionary tradition, the appearance of illegal clergy, the union of official and “popular” Orthodoxy.
