Abstract

The article is an analysis of marriage and family relations in the context of family law of the countries of Tropical Africa in the post-colonial period of development. In particular, the author touches on the period of the 1980s - 2000s as the most representative for the study of the indicated problems. The article discusses the features of the situation of women and men according to the norms of customary, common and statutory law of sub-Saharan societies and reveals specific features of the family, such as the minimum age of marriage, the position of wife and husband. The study identified key problems that exist in postcolonial family law in Tropical Africa related to the preservation and reproduction of traditional customs and practices at the legislative level. The author concluded that there is discrimination in family law against both women and men.
