Abstract

The article shows various points of view of Russian authors on the combat activities of the commander of the Kalinin front, Colonel–General I. S. Konev during the great Patriotic war from December 16, 1941 to August 25, 1942. His formation as a commander began during the war on the Tver land during large-scale defensive and offensive operations of the front and ended with the capture of Berlin and the liberation of Prague. It is not by chance that foreign military historians called him, by analogy with A.V. Suvorov, «The genius of surprise», and the Russian Academy of military Sciences put a.S. Konev on the fourth place after G. K. Zhukov, A. M. Vasilevsky and K. K. Rokossovsky among commanders of the great Patriotic war.
