Abstract

The article studies the changes in the legal status of women in the German Democratic Republic in 1949-1989. in the field of education and professional activities in the context of the regulation of everyday life. Based on the analysis of historiography and sources, the author considers the problem of the equality of women and men declared in the GDR. During the study, measures of state support for women and the creation of conditions for combining professional activities and advanced training with “traditional female” responsibilities were identified. However, the implementation of the measures identified, according to the author, was controversial: the desire to ensure full employment of women in the workplace at the actual level came into conflict with the demographic and economic policies, despite the forms of support stated in the legislation.
