Abstract

The author of the article disputes the assertions of the Swiss historian H. Gerlach about the population of the city of Kalinin at the beginning of the war, during the occupation and after its liberation, as well as the statistics he named about the scale of repression by the occupiers against the inhabitants of the city. Based on archival, little-known and German materials, the author offers other statistics on the problems under consideration, which have not yet attracted close attention of professional Russian researchers. The article also touches upon some aspects of the life of the occupied Kalinin.
