Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of services of choice in the institutions and positions of the local administration of representatives of the urban estates of Ryazan in 1800-1870. Based on the study of archival materials, the author shows that the service in the institutions and posts of the city administration was a compulsory personal personal duty for the urban society. The townspeople selected to serve in positions in local government institutions were limited in time and freedom of movement, they did not receive rewards and were subject to financial penalties for official omissions. The lack of funding led to the fact that the compulsory election services were forced to perform at the expense of personal funds.
