THE BEGINNING OF ACADEMIC SCIENCE: THE BELARUSIAN HISTORIOGRAPHY OF THE SCIENTIFIC AND TERMINOLOGY COMMISSION

The paper investigates the historiographical studying most of the organi-zational history of academic science in Belarus – its initial stage in 1921. The history of science regards this stage as a beforehand planned pro-cess. Therefore it is actually “canonized” a certain scheme. Its essence lies in the initial creation of Scientific and Terminological Commission, its gradual transformation into the Institute of Belarusian Culture and the last – into the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. However a closer special study of the available archival materials and publications makes it possible to disclose weakness of the concept of the STC organization as the basis for the creation of the Inbelcult since its foundation had shortterm practical goals for the development of modern Belarusian terminology for primary and secondary schools. Moreover, for the first time attention is drawn to the existence at the same time of the Scientific and Terminological Commission and the Institute of Belarusian Culture in the autumn-winter 1921.Downloads
