PERSONAL PROVENANCE SOURCES REFERRING TO I.V. STALIN’S TRIP IN AUGUST 1943

The article deals with the systematization and the analysis of diverse per-sonal provenance documents which, according to the author, are the main sources referring to I.V. Stalin’s trip to the area of Rzhev-Vyazma ledge in August 3–5, 1943. The author looks into letters by I.V. Stalin, Rzhev area’s residents’ memories, memoirs written by famous Soviet military leaders and also the testimonies of the NKVD officers who pro-vided for the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s ride. It is claimed that the aggregated materials, despite the difference in their relevance degrees, provide fairly complete insights into the reviewed event, which, in turn, allows us to respond to a number of issues related to the subject. Bridging the lacunas to cover the event, the author proposes her own version rea-soning for I.V. Stalin’s ride onto the areas of Smolensk and Kalinin regions.Downloads
