Abstract

Selo – a special term for rural settlements. Rural settlements of this type were the centers of feudal land tenures. They had different sizes, but the research of the selos of Tver uyezd of the XVI c. allowed to find out the special category of big selos. This selos were the former centers of large ancient allods of tver aristocracy. Such big selos could be found in other territories of North-Eastern Rus’ of the XVI century. Biggest of them also were craft and trade centers and were close in importance to small towns. Selo Knjazh Vladimirovo Gorodishhe – was the biggest rural settlement of Tver uyezd of the XVI century. Possible it was the former town of the Principiality of Tver. In the XVI century it became to be a selo, but inher-ited a value as craft and trade center. Similarly, some of small towns of Tver uyezd of the XVI century like Gorodnja and Mikulin lost they im-portance during Trouble time and transform into biggest selos of the XVII century.
