Abstract

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the life of a rural Old Believer clergyman who managed to maintain church life of full value in his parish for several decades of the Soviet era. The author compares the as-sessments of his activities, presented, on the one hand, in the documents of the Kursk commissioner for religious cult affairs, and on the other, in the memoirs of fellow villagers and acquaintances of the priest. The work demonstrates the importance of studying the “big” confessional history through an appeal to the personal stories of “little people”.
