Abstract

The article highlights the development of the situation with infectious diseases among the population of Kalinin region on the eve of in years of the Great Patriotic war. The findings reveal quantitative data showing the incidence of such disease as spotted fever and some other contagious diseases. The residential density, deterioration in water supply system and bathing units, the lack of qualified medical personnel and other factors resulted in rising incidence rate. The situation was especially severe in the regions released from German occupation where the residents were deprived of medical aid and some part of medical institutions were destroyed. The article covers further efforts of the authorities aimed at infectious diseases spread control as well as elimination of the causes contributing to deterioration of sanitary and epidemiological situ-ation.
