The article is devoted to historical case – stories misevaluating period of 1917 in the history of the Smolensk Orthodox diocese. The chosen prob-lem and its main themes – the history of the diocesan Congress of clergy and laity and the history of the appointment and dismissal of bishops considered in the broad historiographical and historical context. The pur-pose of this focus review is to problematize the local, the case study ap-proach to examine the «big historical events» in the problem field of the modern history of Orthodoxy.Downloads
