Abstract

The article presents analytical review of the main scientific and biograph-ical research, devoted to life and activities of Saint Luca (Boino-Yasenetsky) being an archbishop, scientist and practicing surgeon. The author’s special attention is given to the works of local historians and scientists showing spiritual and medical achievements of the saint in times of his life in Tambov region. The author underlines the scientific importance of the allegiance of archbishop Luca, as long as the restoration of Orthodoxy in Tambov region and people’s respect of his scientific research and professional input for the development of medicine are closely connected to his name. The conclusion of a necessity for scientific research continuation in order to preserve and spread St Luca’s spiritual heritage, is made.
