Abstract

The memoirs of Boris Engelhardt, a famous military and political figure of the early twentieth century, are a striking and interesting resource. We found about 3 large-scale versions of his memoirs. And the first experience of writing memoirs was «Memoirs of the page», which devoted to the period of 1897–1917. His memories were published in Latvia in 1939, however, Boris Alexandrovich failed to fulfill his dream and print them in the USSR. On the recommendation of his friends, Engelhardt corrected his text to make it acceptable to Soviet society, but the memories did not go to the press and for a long time lay down on the table. Subsequently, based on them, B.A. Engelhardt wrote the first part of "Memories of the distant past» – «Wounded World». But this text already lacked much of the very first version of the memories of the page which we would like to analyze in this article.
