Abstract

The article analyzes the main tendencies and issues of reflecting the Holocaust in the Soviet Union in the monographs published the USA in the postwar decades before 1990th, which laid the foundation to the American historiography of the Holocaust. In most of the modern historiographic research the problem of the Holocaust in the USSR are presented fragmentarily. There are no special studies on this topic. Meanwhile, the Holocaust in USSR is one of a few episodes of Russian history that found more detailed development in foreign (largely American) historiography rather than in the USSR/Russia before perestroika. Due to many reasons, first of all – the language barrier and the inaccessibility of the Soviet archives, this problem was on the periphery of the American historiography of the Holocaust. Nevertheless, a number of generalizing studies reveal specific features of the Holocaust in the USSR.
