Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of extreme military everyday life of soldiers and officers of the Kwantung Army during the Soviet-Japanese war of 1945. It was demonstrated how, in the fortified areas and city garrisons of Manchuria, under the influence of a huge complex of factors, they exerted the most bitter resistance to the last soldier, up to and including the emperor's decree on surrender. The episodes of the main battles are considered, and archival documents are presented that most clearly illustrate them. In conclusion, it was concluded that this type of everyday life was significantly different from that in the field units of the Kwantung Army, and it was much longer due to the better fitness of long-term defenses to repel the onslaught of Soviet troops.
