Abstract

The study foremost concentrates on the description of everyday life of pupils of orphan asylums located in the territory of Kalinin Region in the years of the Great Patriotic war. Moreover there are no detailed studies on the subject in Historiography of this region. Data drawn from archival sources, memoranda, reports, records and other documents of the soviet party bodies underlie the background of the publication. The study traces the dynamics of foundation of orphan asylums in the region, gives data concerning their number and types. The work of orphan asylums was as-sociated with such difficulties as non-habitable and cramped rooms, shortage of food, clothing and footwear, insufficient medical care. The author highlights the measures taken by the authorities on the Union, regional and community levels as well as heads of the orphan asylums in order to improve the situation.
