Abstract

The article shows that for 100 years historiography had not gone beyond the political ideas and myths born of the revolution itself. Such representations, in turn, were based on the “progressive” mentality of the Enlightenment. Meanwhile, the Russian revolution moved not at a linear perspective, as it was thought a hundred years ago. The history is rather cyclical, according to the properties of the human mass, tends to restrain representatives of impatient political elites. These thoughts were expressed by the most astute people a hundred years ago. The revolution can be “conservative”, which clearly demonstrates the present. A true revolution is possible only in connection with the “revolution of consciousness” of the mass of the population. Therefore, the events of a century ago should be rethought at the cultural and anthropological level.
