Abstract

The article analyzes the historiography of a large-scale propaganda pro-ject, the construction of the Hejaz railway, carried out in the framework of the implementation of conceptual ideas of state power in the Ottoman Empire at the end of the XIX beginning of the XX century. Of particular interest is the study of ideological campaigns in the East, aimed at the development of the economic infrastructure of states, and at the same time, at solving major international problems. It is proved that for a long period of time, such large state projects were investigated in domestic and foreign historiography only as economic projects that did not have specific ideological tasks. In turn, the practices of power in the East, and especially in the Ottoman Empire, were often viewed by researchers as attempts by the imperial authorities to exert only spiritual influence on their subjects.
