Abstract

The article deals with the issue of power relations between the newcomer Karelian population with the autochthonous Russian. The study was con-ducted on the basis of unpublished, archival sources of the XVIII century, not previously introduced into scientific circulation. These are census books of Bezhetsk uyezd, as well as documents of state institutions (certificates, court cases, petitions). The main attention is paid to the management and regulation of local authorities of Karelian settlers as well as to the identification of their political status. In conclusion, the author describes the process of adaptation and integration of Karelian migrants into the Russian community.
