Abstract

The article analyzes the publications of authors from Russia, who characterize the confessional history of the Tver’ Karelians in the 17–19th c. As the investigation shows, every-day confessional practices form the main component of that history, but they are absolutely unexplored and, therefore, represented a promising direction in the ethno cultural and church history. The author believes, that basic research tasks are consisted in defining the features of the faith institutionalization (through the reconstruction of parish system establishing), identifying the Orthodox Christians of «new» and «old» formations, and their interaction with the indigenous orthodox population. The available sources that contain data useful for reconstruction of the confessional life of the Karelians are thoroughly analyzed. The author concludes that the documentation that historians have already found out provides an opportunity only partly to answer on raised questions.
