Abstract

We consider information about the veneration of Prince Mikhail Yaroslavich in Tver in medieval, new and modern times. Provides data on monasteries, temples and icons associated with the tradition of honoring the Blessed Prince. The generalization of the available information makes it possible to outline periods in this tradition (before the beginning of the 17th century, the 17th – early 20th centuries, the end of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries). The author expresses his opinion that during these periods the veneration of the prince was functionally different («defender of the earth», «savior from harm» and «ideal prince»). It is emphasized that in recent times a complete reconstruction of the tradition of honoring the heels of Michael is difficult. The reasons for this are seen by the author in the absence of continuity of tradition, miracles and real objects associated with the name of the prince, in a different compared to the pre-revolutionary level of religious consciousness and spiritual needs of society.
