Abstract

The author shows that every revolution is associated with a particular set of mythological representations of the past and the future. In turn, it gives rise to a new wave of myth-making. In the view of the overwhelming ma-jority of the population of Russia Nicholas II's regime was not viable. It provided such a rapid deliverance from it. The new government, for its part, was inspired by the myths of the saving role of the western type of democracy and the multiparty system. These hopes have failed. The Rus-sian democracy was won by all kinds of rumors related to the lack of mass understanding of the political culture of the Western model. In these circumstances, the victory was for the Bolsheviks, whose faith in the Marxist outlook merged with the people's trust in the “miracle.” Such kind views turned to the new utopia.
