Abstract

The report presents a brief overview of the research of historians and philologists founded a scientific investigations of the «Tver Karelian». The chronological scope of the survey covers an extensive period: from the first publications of the 19th century to scientific research of the present time. Now two approaches to the study of the Karelian world have developed and are developing in the region: study of local lore and professional historical. An analytic surwey of the works of professionals (historians and philologists) and amateur historians shows that a wide range of topics reflecting the vital activity of the Karelian ethnos in the territory of the Tver Upper Volga region is being developed. However complex studies based on a broad documentary base are clearly not enough. The author concludes that the prospects for studying the history of the Tver Karelians as an ethnoterritorial phenomenon require the collective efforts of all interested scientific communities
