Abstract

In the suggested article of A. I. Mramornov the events, preceded the call of the Local Council 1917-1918, and also the relations between the Russian Orthodox Church presented by the Council’s members, and the state power during the Russian revolution of 1917, are discovered. The used in the article sources are the acts of the Provisional Government and of the Bolsheviks, the newspapers, biographies of Council’s members, and first of all – the acts of the Council. In the frames of his research the author comes to the conclusion that the February revolution made the call of the Local Council possible, by weakening the influence of the state on the Church. Nevertheless, the principled position of the Council as the voice of the Church, and, from the other side, in some other issues the antireligious policy of the powers led to the full impossibility of the dialogue. As a result the Russian revolution turned out to be incompatible with the conciliarism (sobornost’), at first giving it birth, but then destroying it in its first stages.
