Abstract

This article is an attempt to understand the views of a Russian noblewom-an of the late 18th century – first half of the 19th century about love and marriage, to determine their place and role in her life. Because in this period in the Russian Empire coexist aristocratic and bourgeois moral values, the gender system should be described as traditional. Noblewoman since childhood known her main goal is marriage and birth of children. So the interest of the noble girls to the opposite sex depended on her marriage and reproductive aspirations. At the same time, «double standards» of sexual morality imposed a significant imprint on «men's» and «women's» texts and complicate the understanding of this aspect of women's everyday life.
