Abstract

The article analyzes the revolutionary events of the early 20th century and the degree of participation in them of the Orthodox clergy is considered. As a result of the growing crisis in the late XIX – early XX century in Russia, there is a spiritual and philosophical crisis and a decline in the authority of the clergy, the clergy itself was in a depressed moral and material state. The Tambov clergy had to work in conditions of strict protective measures on the part of the government. The revolutionary events of the beginning of the 20th century fully allowed the clergy to get acquainted with the set of radical political means that were vividly manifested in the Tambov Seminary. Sextants under the influence of the leftist parties became the overthrow of the authority of the Orthodox clergy. The clergy had to react to the liberal concessions of the government, and this led to a weakening of the church's position.
