Abstract

The aim of the study is to explore the specificity of protection of motherhood and infancy in the extreme conditions of wartime. The main sources of research - materials of the charitable organizations, state authorities, medical institutions and materials of periodicals of the 1910s. The problem of protection of motherhood and infancy became especially actually during the World War I. Initiatives discuss the project came from representatives of the medical community, the supporters of the feminist movement, the members of philanthropic organizations, local authorities. The author comes to the conclusion that protection motherhood and infantry turned into the major social institute. Care of pregnant women, mothers and infant became a symbol of life and rebirth of Russia.
