THE ORGANIZATION OF HEALTH CARE TO PRISONERS OF WAR IN THE WORLD WAR I IN THE KALUGA AND TULA

Abstract

This article is about the medical care organization of prisoners of war of the German, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires accommodated in the Kaluga and Tula provinces during the First World War. The article is based on the materials of the local mass media, documents of central and local authorities, keeping in the State Archive of the Russian Federation, Russian State Military Historical Archive, the State Archive of Kaluga and Tula regions. The author concludes that, despite the difficulties caused by the war, localauthorities in central regions of the Russian Empire paid great attention to the issue of medical care for prisoners of war and solved the problems effectively, monitor their health condition, reported about this question regularly and examined the rooms, where the prisoners were kept, because in the case of an epidemic, it could spread among the local residents rapidly.
