The article presents an analysis of the educational process in the Russian seminaries in the XIX century and its transformation during the series of reforms. The author insists that the shortcomings in the organization of religious schools influenced inner seminaries contradictions? mood students and professional conduct of teachers. The actual importance of the problems of spiritual education is revealed primarily through the sources of personal origin. As a result, author concluded that the learning process that was intended to involve students to the world of Russian spiritual culture, to acquaint them with the Orthodox heritage of many centuries, has a destructive impact on the students and helped to reduce the status of religious education.
