TRANSFORMATION OF THE TSAR’S IMAGE IN THE PERCEPTION OF PSKOV PROVINCE INHABITANTS IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY ACCORDING TO THE MATERIALS OF LEGAL CASES

Abstract

In the article the issue of transformation of the tsar’s image in the perception of different groups of Pskov province population (peasants, bourgeois, soldiers) in the early twentieth century is considered. The data is based on the materials of legal cases. The attention was paid to the reaction of the state machinery by means of the judicial system to the manifestation of abuse of emperor and his family behind their back. The insults were often carried out by persons who were in a state of alcoholic intoxication in places of crowd gathering (cafes, hotels, factories). Such abuse appeared during the first Russian revolution and it was intensified during the First World War in the worsening economic situation of the population. The response of the judicial system to these phenomena was quite rapid, judicial investigations were not protracted. It was shown not only the interaction between the judicial system and law order (police, gendarmerie), but also between local government departments, mostly district municipality.
