Reflection of the Holocaust History in American Press, 1939–1945

Abstract

The article analyzes the information about the persecutions and extermination of the Jews by Nazi regime, published in American press in 1939–1945, and shows how this topic was covered and positioned in American newspapers, journals and other publications in the USA, reflected different directions of American social and political life. The article concludes that the process of the Holocaust image formation took several important steps – from traditional interpretations of anti-Semitism splash to the understanding the unprecedented nature of the Nazi extermination policy. Consequently, the concept of the Holocaust is not a historiographical construct, because primary sources reflects its key aspects, as the example of American press shows.
