Abstract

The article is devoted to analysis of the versions of the Shishkovs’ proband’s origin. It is a response to A. V. Kuzmin’s criticism of our hy-pothesis formulated in 2014 in collaboration with N. V. Shtykov. On the basis of the reputable sources and its critical review this paper confirms, clarifies and expands the argument of the previous statements of the first representatives of the genus and their activities time. The obtained data is discussed in the context of the existing historiographical tradition of the study. The only we have to doubt at present is A. V. Kuzmin’s version about the autochthonous origin of the genus, because it is not strictly proved, or, at least, this one is not invariant, as it the appeal to some chronicles demonstrated.
