The author analyzes the content of «Critical Companion to the Revolution 1914–1921» which was first published in the UK and the U.S. in 1997. It was sponsored by several dozen Western and Russian authors. Although the authors do not fully agree with each other, their writings formed the complete picture of the whole revolution and Civil war, which stands out against most of the current Russian works. The authors showed that besides all external chaos the Russian revolution was a natural process of disintegration and the subsequent restoration of the traditional authoritarian rule. The causes of this phenomenon – not so much in the actions of politicians, but mainly in the political culture of the masses, aggressively stimulated by horrors of World War II.
