The article, mainly based on unpublished archive documents, studies the activity of the working collective of the Tentelevskii Chemical Plant in Petrograd in 1917. This collective could be characterized as neither highly qualified nor socially or revolutionarily active. The researcher uncovers distinguishing features in the employees’ behavior and in activity of their representative body. Conducted research allows to make a conclusion that this institute actually functioned as a trade union cell in 1917. Moderate and lawful methods used by the Committee as well as responsible attitude of its representatives did not allow the working collective to meddle into the plant management like the collectives of other factories in Petrograd.
