Sevastopol in Russia''s foreign trade (1878–1898)

Abstract

The economic development of Crimea is now a topical problem. The article is devoted to studying the role of Sevastopol as an export point of the Russian foreign trade in 1878 - 1898 on the background of the important events, which had influence on the trade. The historiography includes only a few works. Therefore, the basis of research became the published sources and archival materials. The article drawn attention on the way of trade, the process of pricing, development of the commercial port, economic development of the country and the peninsula. The article concluded that after the end of the Russian-Turkish War (1877 – 1978) and before the closing of the commercial port and the final transformation into a purely naval base, Sevastopol played an important role in Russia's foreign trade.
