WAR AND PEACE IN THE TVERSKAYA PROVINCE: 1914–1917

In World War I historiography the complex of the problems connected with «human measurement» wars, remains low-studied. The analysis of events, moods and behavior of the population is presented in this article on an example of the Tverskaya province/diocese. The article, basing on archive materials, represents a current of events in Tver’ province in period from 1914 to beginning 1917. Author examines as the First World War circumstances (mobilization and influx of wounded, prisoners of war, refugees) influenced for change of habitual rhythm of life of inhabitants of the province. The transformation of religious intentions and behavior of population is especially analyzed. In the conclusion it is shown how exhausted with war and deceived by the power once law-abiding loyal the Tverskaya province, become carriers of revolutionary moods and begin realization «the rights for freedom».Downloads
