Abstract

The diaries of Russian artist Constantin Somov is an important, only partially published historical source that is of undoubted interest for those historians, art historians and culturologists who study russian culture in exile. The article gives an archeographic description of the diaries kept in the Manuscript Department of Russian Museum, Saint Petersbourg. Our research throws light on the question of criptography used in the diaries and gives it an analytical summary. The sizeable part of the article is devoted to the preceding Somov diaries publication made by the Russian museum scholars Y. Podkopaeva and A. Sveshnikova in 1979 with many disregards to the rule of historical source publications.
