Abstract

The article is devoted to a marginal issue for the Russian historical discourse that involves representation of practices limiting childbirth in the noble families of industrial Russia. Active involvement of women's ego-documents into the research provides an opportunity to examine the phenomenon «from inside », and represent women’s opinion on this delicate intimate problem. Special attention is paid to the issue of the causes made contraception enter the life of Russian noblewomen. The author arrives at a conclusion about despite the negative attitude of noblewomen to contraception, they willingly used them that made them look for new forms of gender identity. Without contraceptive practices it was impossible for Russian woman to enter the forefront of Russian history and to find of her social freedom. As a result, family planning was progressively becoming an important component of Russian noble families.
