Abstract

This article continues long-term research of a gender component in system of characteristics of scientific community of the Soviet and modern Russia. This article analyzes emotionally-saturated data from biographical interviews and autobiographies written or told by women-scientists where women from different generations narrate about their private, intimate or family lives. The author arrives at a conclusion that some female academics have painful memories of their professorial careers because of absence or lack of ‘normal’ family and private life, equality in which and support from husbands was not been so easy to achieve in practice. Analyzing interviews the author shows that emotional pain, gender asymmetry and double burden are among the building blocks of academic life for women.
