Abstract

In this article position of Armenian Catholic church in Russian Empire in the beginning of 20th century is described. A conflict between Russian Armenian Catholics and their superior, the Apostolic Administrator Ter-Abramyan, which took place during WWI, is closely observed. Factors that caused the conflict are shown up, such as Terbramyan’s intention to latinize the Armenian Rite, his indifference to the tragedy of Armenians in Turkey, complicated relationships between the Apostolic Administrator, the parish clergy and Armenian Catholic congregations, the blame of some Armenian Catholic priests in their relations with the Central Powers. The article is based on the materials of Russian State Historical Archive and to G.Guaita's monograph «1700 Years of Faithfulness: History of Armenia and its Churches».
